Microcrystalline and Ozokerite waxes are widely used as stiffening agents in creams and ointments. They adjust the crystalline structure of other waxes, reduce oil “sweating” in blends, and increase body and structure due to their branched composition and higher melt viscosity. Dental waxes can be broadly classified into two groups: those used primarily in clinics and those used in commercial dental laboratories.

Paramelt offers a comprehensive range of tissue embedding waxes for histology, the study of microscopic tissue structure. Tissue samples are preserved, dehydrated, and impregnated with wax before sectioning to prevent damage. Paramelt’s range includes high-purity paraffin-based wax (melting point 55 °C), lower-melting grades for sensitive tissues, and reinforced grades (Fibrowax and Paramat Gurr) for improved sectioning. For very dense specimens, Paramat Gurr Extra contains DMSO for better impregnation. All histology waxes are produced on dedicated lines with high-purity materials, thorough filtration, and tested both in-house and externally to ensure suitability for microscopy.
