The Aquaseal packaging coatings range uses a proprietary high-solids mechanical dispersion technology to produce water-based dispersions of high molecular weight polyolefins and styrene block copolymers. These dispersions offer advantages over solvent-based lacquers, water-based emulsions, and extrusion coatings, with key applications across major flexible packaging substrates.

• Paper coatings

Aquaseal paper coatings, based on extrusion-grade polyolefins (e.g., Surlyn™ ionomers, EAA, mLD-PE, PP, EVA), provide benefits like heat sealability, moisture barrier, and recyclability. Unlike acrylic or PVDC water-based coatings, they offer superior humidity resistance and hot-tack performance, comparable to extrusion-coated papers.

• Film coatings

Aquaseal is applied to surface coatings of polymeric films (BOPP, BOPET, cellophane) to provide targeted sealing performance.

• Foil coatings

A complete range of functional coatings has been developed for aluminium foil as an alternative to solvent-based lacquers, extrusion coating, and laminating.

The Paraflex™ L and LT ranges include multiple grades for flexible packaging needs. The standard Paraflex™ L is suitable for substrates like paper, aluminium foil, paperboard, cellophane, and plastic films (PE, PP, PS, PET, PLA). Wax laminates are commonly used in butter, margarine, confectionery, biscuit, cheese, bouillon, soup, and stock cube packaging.

The Paraflex™ LT range is developed for effective lamination and controlled delamination in cap-seal liner wads. Paramelt provides products balancing cost and performance in die cutting resistance, heat resistance, bond strength, and release. Liner wads are used in induction-sealable closures with screw caps for lubricants, household chemicals, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, instant coffee, and high-fat spreads. These waxes are also applied in heat-sealable laminates, e.g., silk paper with aluminium foil.

The Paraflex™ coating wax range includes:

• Paraflex™ CW – non-sealable waxes for gloss and barrier coatings.
• Paraflex™ WS – waxy peel-seal grades.
• Paraflex™ HS – high-strength heat-seal hot melts.

Paraflex™ CW types suit various papers and viscosities, balancing gloss and scuff resistance — ideal for twist, fold, bunch, sachet, meat, cheese, flower, and decorative wrappers.

Paraflex™ WS provides easy-open, peel-seal coatings (single or double side) for bread, sweets, and chewing gum packaging.

Paraflex™ HS offers strong sealing and adhesion to PE, PP, PS, PET, PLA, glass, and aluminum, used in yogurt banderoles (IML), soap wrappers, lidding, cap seal liners, and confectionery laminates.

The differences between the various grades relate to the properties required in the wax coating and also the machinery employed. The main performance criteria for gloss and heat seal coating waxes are:

Paraflex Nowax™ vegetable-based waxes provide a sustainable alternative to traditional mineral waxes, offering a positive consumer image and excellent performance for paper packaging.

They deliver controlled barrier properties, high gloss, good release, low friction, scuff resistance, and heat sealability, while running on existing coating equipment.

Depending on coating weight, they meet all renewability and end-of-life requirements, offering functionality equivalent to conventional Paraflex wax coatings.
